Deefer Diving Invites us to a Wreck Made of Candy

By July 6, 2016 No Comments

Deefer Diving in Carriacou delivers a vibrating youthful energy. When we arrived, the decks were filled with groups of people engaged in exciting projects. Divemaster Candidates were learning new skills, Volunteers with Deefer’s NGO Caribbean Reef Buddy were planning their reef monitoring work and local “coral gardeners” were gearing up to go maintain a thriving coral nursery offshore. It was exciting to see so many people engaged in learning and conservation.

We headed out to a small wreck site that was made possible by Connie and Georg from Arawak Divers. I doubt they ever would have predicted how beautiful it looks today. As you descend down the line to the depths, you can immediately make out the full shape of the tug. But until you cast a light on the structure, you can’t enjoy the complete beauty. Under illumination, you can see the entire wreck is adorned with colorful cup corals. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

Co-owner Alex took Joe and I on wonderful tours and offered a VIP treatment as seems to be the norm on Carriacou. We’re getting spoiled here.
